TogetherWell (TW) is an amazing non-profit organization that seeks to decrease the barriers to mental health education by offering workshops and trainings to a variety of audiences at little to no cost. I was given the opportunity to help increase their reach by creating content for the organization's blog, newsletter, and social media accounts.
Writing for this organization is unique in that it has two distinct audiences; the first being HR departments, companies, schools, and other organizations that are seeking to book workshops and the second being mental health professionals who are deciding to become a member of TogetherWell to offer these workshops.
I was tasked with developing content for TogetherWell's monthly newsletter to reach both of these audiences as well as their social media accounts including Facebook and Instagram. It has been a pleasure to develop content in a field that is so incredibly important and for an organization that is doing such good work to inform the community at large about the importance of mental health education.
My initial project was to create an article for National Volunteers Week in order to show appreciation for the 50+ volunteers working with TogetherWell. This was to be featured on TW's Facebook page as well as their website.
The directors of TW preferred not to highlight individual volunteers due to fairness concerns so I came up with the idea of highlighting the benefits of volunteering. Because of the nature of the organization, I decided to focus on the distinct mental health benefits that are linked with the act of volunteering.
I also collaborated with the founder and another volunteer on the team to gather data regarding how many individuals TW had reached throughout the year in order to highlight this information for the volunteers. My goal was to shed light on how important volunteers are to the organization and the substantial contribution that they make to TW.
TogetherWell was very pleased with the outcome of this volunteer appreciation article and subsequently requested that I work on a newsletter for the organization featuring a different mental health topic every month. I gladly accepted the opportunity and started with an article on what is termed "the pet effect" in relation to mental health.
"Eliza! I love your volunteer article. It is everything and more! Out of the gate, I feel that you captured the tone and spirit of our organization." - Michele Haley, Founder of TW
I look forward to my continued contribution to TogetherWell. The topic of mental health is one that fascinates me personally, and collaborating with this team of talented individuals has been mutally rewarding! Thank you, TogetherWell!
